Born and raised in P.R. From 1988 to 1993 did General Surgery in Ponce District Hospital, Puerto Rico; 1993-1996 did the Fellowship and Residency in Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery in Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, in New Jersey, USA. Came back to Ponce, where established his private practice in 1996 and served to the community of Ponce with thousands of operations from 1996 to January 2021. In February 2021 moved his practice to Mayaguez Medical Center as Director of the Cardiovascular Surgery program. Dr. Mulero has done many contributions to the cardiovascular surgery in P.R., among which did the first cases of beating heart surgery in P.R. in 1999, and the the first cases of endoscopic vein harvesting in 2001. Also pioneered the heart valve surgery and blood conservation strategies. He is certified and re-certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Associate Professor of the Ponce School of Medicine and St. Kitts Medical School, and member of other prestigious medical organizations. Dr. Mulero has been recognized by performing most of his many cardiovascular and thoracic operations with very low morbidity and mortality, always considering every new case a very special patient with unique needs and challenges, and stands out for his integrity and his hard work, with dedication and communication with the patient and family throughout all the processes of surgery.
