John Hayes

Dr John Hayes is a third-generation physician and second-generation Nephrologist and Internist with 20 years of experience from Trinidad and Tobago. His passion for Nephrology was cultivated through his involvement in a 40-year-old family foundation- The John Hayes Memorial Kidney Foundation established by his mother after the untimely passing of his father to both honor and operationalize a goal of providing affordable dialysis therapy and renal care to his underprivileged patients. Witnessing his parents commitment and philanthropy shaped his medical philosophy to deliver compassionate, comprehensive and quality care to patients. His most notable contribution to the Foundation was pioneering a pilot project that culminated in a fully subsidized Dialysis Service for End Stage Renal Disease patients. This has further improved economically disadvantaged patients access to dialysis therapies.
Dr Hayes completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the Carilion Virginia Tech School of Medicine in 2010 and finished Nephrology subspecialty training at the University of Virginia in 2012. Post fellowship he was appointed as a Clinical instructor in the Division of Nephrology at the University of Virginia Medical Center from 2012-2014. His clinical interests are Chronic Kidney Disease and Dialysis therapies.
