Dr. John Villanueva focuses on the multi-disciplinary approach of treating pain from a variety of disease processes including neck and back spinal conditions, complex regional pain syndrome, joint disease, and chronic pain from spinal cord injuries, neurological disorders, cancer, and other medical conditions. His comprehensive treatment of pain includes an in-depth investigation of the root causes that could be contributing to their pain and associated symptoms and neuro-deficits.

After graduating from the Ivy League Cornell University, he received his Medical Doctorate from the US News World Top 10 ranked University of Minnesota Medical School, where he received the William Knobloch Merit Scholarship and the David E. Rogers Research Fellowship from the renowned New York Academy of Medicine. He completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency training at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, one of the top-ranking pain rehabilitation hospital systems in the nation. He then completed his Pain Management Fellowship in the Department of Anesthesiology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. During his post-graduate training, Dr. Villanueva was recognized with numerous awards for excellence in teaching and scholarly work. He has published scientific papers in high impact journals, such as Neuromodulation: Technology at the Neural Interface. Dr. Villanueva presented nationally on a variety of topics involving both rehabilitation medicine and pain medicine.

 As a member of several professional societies including: the Academy of Physical Medicine Rehabilitation, American Society of Regional Anesthesia Pain Medicine, and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, Dr. Villanueva remains current on new technologies and pharmaceuticals in his specialty field, applying these medical advances to his practice.

Coupled with his excellent diagnostic and interventionalist skills, Dr. Villanueva is best known by his patients and staff for his disarming dismeanor and friendly smile.
