As a board certified General surgeon, Dr. Richard Nguyen specializes in laparoscopic and bariatric surgery.
Dr. Richard Nguyen was born in Iowa and raised in Southern California, he completed his undergraduate degree at Creighton University in Omaha, NE. Dr. Nguyen then received his Doctorate of Osteopathy from Touro University, Vallejo, CA. He then completed his General Surgery Residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Nguyen then further specialized his skills by completing a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Bariatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
Dr. Nguyen has also helped to pioneer single incision laparoscopic procedures as well as being da Vinci Robot certified, he currently trains other surgeons regionally and internationally in these fields, contributing to the further innovation of surgical techniques and devices.
Dr. Nguyen has been a clinical instructor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center as well as clinical faculty at Michigan State University. He has served as a faculty instructor during the SAGES The Society of American Endoscopic Surgeons national meetings for advanced endoscopic procedures and is on the SAGES committee for Bariatric surgery. Dr. Nguyen has presented papers nationally regarding treatment modalities for GERD and the field of surgical weight loss.
